Conference FAQs

SOUL Conference 2022 FAQ's

Is the SOUL conference restricted to members of SOUL?

No.  SOUL encourages non-members to attend who have an interest in the university legal sector. The AGM is the only session restricted to members of SOUL but all other sessions may be attended by members and non-members as they wish. However, members of SOUL have preferential registration rates as set out in the Registration details.

When does early bird pricing end?

As set out in Registration details, early bird closes 30 September.

Will the SOUL conference be available online or virtually?

No.  The SOUL Conference is an in-person event only.

Will the sessions count towards my CPD requirements?

Like previous SOUL conferences, most sessions will be able to be counted as CPD points.  However, it will be up to each attendee to record their attendance in their usual manner and allocate to the appropriate CPD category depending on their relevant law society requirements.

When will details of the program be released?

The program has now been released but details of some sessions will continue to be finalised. We will continue to release updates as further details are finalised.

What will the program cover?

The program will cover a wide range of topics as it has done in previous years as SOUL appreciates that its members practise in a wide variety of areas of law. It will include sessions led by external experts from law firms and other guest speakers as well as some of our SOUL members.

Do I qualify for early bird registration rates if I have submitted my SOUL membership application but it is not yet approved?

There is still time to submit membership applications to SOUL via the SOUL website and we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. Once your membership application is approved, you can apply for conference registration at the SOUL member rate.

What is the dress code?

The dress code for the conference and all its events is business or business casual. However, this does not mean that you cannot dress up more for the conference dinner or cocktails if you wish!

Can I take my partner to conference sessions or events?

No. Conference sessions and events are open to registered attendees of the conference only.

Do I have to stay at the Mecure Sydney Hotel?

No. This hotel is recommended as one of the closest to the conference venue and SOUL has secured a preferential rate. However, there are many other hotels also nearby and across Sydney. There will not be any conference events held at this hotel.

Is SOUL providing NACUA scholarships this year?

The SOUL Board considered whether to provide NACUA scholarships earlier this year and decided that rather than concentrate funding for 2 attendees to attend NACUA, we would prefer to use the same funding for the benefit of the SOUL membership more widely (for example, mentoring programmes and other events and initiatives). The SOUL Board is keen to discuss possible activities that members believe would be useful at the conference.
